Kate Beurmann-O’Neill is an associate attorney at Family Law Group. After spending several years as an associate at a Trusts and Estates practice in Fairfax, Virginia, Kate transitioned to a career in health care law. During those 15 years, Kate advocated for hospital systems across the country in their administrative appeals processes. Using the web of federal and state laws which protect patients from coverage denials and looming financial disasters, she has accumulated a depth of experience in contracts, ERISA, PPACA (The Affordable Care Act), HIPAA and Medicare and Medicaid rules and regulations.
After spending those years working remotely in the healthcare space and raising her family, Kate decided to go back to the active practice of law in 2021. Kate is thrilled to be a part of Family Law Group, returning to Trusts and Estate practice as well as traditional family law, and practices throughout the region, including in Fairfax, Prince William, Loudoun, Fauquier and Frederick Counties.
Kate is a member of the Virginia State Bar (since 2004), Virginia Women Attorneys Association (2022-2023 President-Elect of Prince William County Chapter), NAELA, VAELA, Virginia Trial Lawyers Association, and several local bar associations.
After formative years spent as an Army brat moving all over the US and abroad, Kate was able to maintain Virginia as her home base for good in 1987. Kate grew up mostly in Vienna, Virginia, but moved to Prince William County in 2008 and has firmly planted her roots here since then.
Kate graduated from George Mason University School of Law in 2004 and has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Broadcasting and Film from Boston University (’97). Kate spent a semester during undergraduate study in Paris, France and while there worked for a film production company. Before attending law school, Kate spent several years working for WETA TV26, as a production assistant for NewsHour, A Capitol Fourth, Pledge Drive and other broadcasts.
Kate has been married to Patrick O’Neill since 2020, and together they are raising a happily blended family of four children ages 12 to 25, along with a very rambunctious two-year-old mini schnoodle named Rudy. Kate has another stepdaughter, 24, who is currently finishing up her 3L year of law school.
